Since the Perot Museum opened the doors to its gorgeous new building in 2012, our family has loved visiting the museum as often as possible. With four floors and dozens of exhibits, something interests everyone in the family.
When visiting Dallas, Texas, you may be overwhelmed with the vast number of attractions the city has to offer. Overlooking downtown from its hillside perch is the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, a stellar educational and entertaining facility. In addition to its plethora of engaging exhibits, the Perot Museum also houses an impressive IMAX theater. Featuring an enormous screen – one of the biggest in Texas at 77 feet wide – this 972-seat theater offers cutting-edge 3D technology for optimal viewing. You can enjoy documentaries about nature, wildlife, space exploration, and more in this spectacular setting.

After exploring the museum’s many wonders, head to the café for a delicious bite to eat. The café proudly serves up seasonal dishes made from local ingredients, ensuring your meal is as fresh and flavorful as possible. Ellie May at the Perot Museum
The Perot Museum has a new family member! Ellie May is a Columbian Mammoth discovered and excavated right here in Texas. We met the paleontologist, Dr. Ron Tykoski and learned a few interesting facts about the incredible find.
She was found in Ellis County and her skeleton was almost complete. They were even able to recover her tail – extremely rare because it is typically the first thing to be scavenged, hers was preserved because she tucked it underneath her body. She is beautifully displayed uniquely, allowing visitors to see her as she was at the excavation site.
This exhibit is located right off the elevators on Level 3. If you visit Ellie May at the museum, check out the display on the wall – you are able to control a camera pointed over the mammoth to get a better look.
Creatures of Light at the Perot Museum
Another new experience at the Perot Museum is the Creatures of the Night: Nature’s Bioluminescence exhibit on the lower level across from the Children’s museum. There are larger-than-life replicas of glowing mushrooms, vampire squid, flickering fireflies, fluorescent corals, and even live flashlight fish. It is an amazing exhibit your family won’t want to miss.
Of course, you won’t want to miss the stunning 3D Films in the Hoglund Foundation Theater. They are currently showing four brilliant films, including Jerusalem 3D, Walking with Dinosaurs: Prehistoric Planet 3D, Wildest Weather in the Solar System 3D, and Wonders of the Arctic 3D.
Of course, we had to explore the rest of the museum while we were there. Really, the best reason to visit the Perot Museum is to see the amazement and wonder on your little one’s face as they realize just how interesting our world can be.
